The Cleveland Browns today named Brad Childress offensive coordinator, the team announced. Childress brings 33 years of coaching experience on both the collegiate and professional levels to the Browns, including 13 in the NFL. Most recently, he spent five seasons (2006-10) as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings.

As head coach of the Vikings, Childress guided Minnesota to a regular season record of 39-35 (.527), as the team won consecutive division titles (2008-09) for the first time in 28 years (1977-78). In 2009, the team posted a 12-4 record, matching the second-best win total in franchise history, while leading the NFL with a club-high 10 Pro Bowlers. Also in 2009, the team’s passing offense, led by quarterback Brett Favre, finished the season ranked eighth, as Favre set career-highs in passer rating (107.2) and completion percentage (68.4%), while throwing 33 touchdown passes. During Childress’ first four seasons at the helm, the Vikings’ rushing offense posted the fourth-most rushing yards in the NFL (136.1 ypg) and the third-best average for rushing yards per carry (4.5). Under Childress’ tutelage, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson led the NFC and ranked second in the NFL with 1,341 rushing yards as a rookie. Peterson also led the league in rushing in 2008 with a franchise-best 1,760 yards and paced the NFL in 2009 with 18 rushing touchdowns.

Oh, Boy! Will LeBron James become a Cleveland Cavalier again?

Oh, Boy! Will LeBron James become a Cleveland Cavalier again?

SOUTH BEACH, FL - Reports suggest that LeBron James is unhappy with Miami Heat management and could opt out of his contract when he is eligible after the 2013-2014 season.

Say what?

Reports also suggest that LeBron James has his eye on the Cleveland Cavaliers if he does take his talents and leave South Beach.

If he came back to Cleveland would you forgive him? The former King of Akron did apologize at one point...remember? "I went through a lot, you know, deciding to be here (Miami) and the way it panned out. All the friends and the family and the fans back home....I apologize for the way it happened. But I knew that this opportunity was once in a lifetime" said LeBron during the Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Celtics.

Maybe this time he will air a one hour special called "The Apology" if he does claim Cleveland's court once again.

Winter Sports Safety Tips

Winter Sports Safety Tips

ICE SKATING:

Allow children to skate only on approved surfaces. Ice skating should be done at regulated rinks and not on ponds, rivers or other bodies of water that might be only partially frozen. Check for signs posted by local police or recreation departments to find out which areas are approved.

-Advise your child to skate in the same direction as the crowd. Avoid darting across the ice.

-Never skate alone.

-Do not chew gum or hard candy when skating.

-Wear appropriate clothing and safety equipment.

SLEDDING:

-Keep sledders away from motor vehicles and bodies of water.

-Children should be supervised. Keep young children separated from older children. Avoid sledding in overcrowded areas.

-Sledding feet first or sitting up, instead of lying down head-first, may prevent head injuries.

-Sleds should be structurally sound and free of sharp edges and splinters, and the steering mechanism should be well lubricated.

-Sled slopes should be free of obstructions like trees or fences, be covered in snow not ice, not be too steep (slope of less than 30 degrees) and end with a flat runoff.

- Sledding injuries can be very serious, resulting in head trauma, neck trauma, and broken bones.

CBS Sports: NBA, Players reach tentative agreement

CBS Sports: NBA, Players reach tentative agreement

After representatives of the NBA and its players met for 15 hours of labor negotiations Friday into Saturday, Ken Berger of CBSSports.com first reported that a "tentative agreement [was] reached, according to one of the negotiators."

The lengthy face-to-face meeting re-opened negotiations after the National Basketball Players Association disbanded to file an antitrust lawsuit against the league last week.

Talks began at noon Friday and ran past 3 a.m. Saturday morning. The NBA and its players held a joint press conference after 3:30 a.m. to announce the tentative deal.

"We have reached a tentative understanding," NBA commissioner David Stern confirmed. "We're optimistic that the NBA season will come to pass on Dec. 25, Christmas Day, with a triple-header."

Training camps would begin on Dec. 9, according to Stern, if everything plays out as expected. Yahoo Sports reported that free agency and training camps would open concurrently once the deal is approved by both sides.

Former NBPA executive director Billy Hunter repeated Stern's message.

"I want to announce... that we are happy that we have been able to reach a tentative litigation settlement," Hunter said. "We're going to turn it all over to the lawyers ... and see how that proceeds ... "Once we present it (to players), we're confident they will support it."

The three games originally scheduled for Christmas Day include: the Boston Celtics at the New York Knicks, the Miami Heat at the Dallas Mavericks, and the Chicago Bulls at the Los Angeles Lakers.

Stern said that the league has scheduled a conference call with the NBA's Labor Relations Committee to present the proposed agreement on Saturday. The NBPA must re-form its union to ratify the agreement as well. This step is considered a formality.
