Chicago family involved in fatal Ohio Turnpike crash

STREETSBORO, OH (WOIO)- The Streetsboro Fire Department has reported a fatal crash Wednesday morning.

Around 10 a.m., the Streetsboro Fire Department responded to a crash on the Ohio Turnpike at the  west bound 187 mile marker.

Mutual aid EMS was requested form the Aurora Fire Department, Twinsburg Fire Department and Hudson EMS. Additionally, heavy rescue assistance was requested from the Mantua-Shalersville Fire Department.

Officer arrived and found a passenger vehicle overturned in the grassy area between westbound lanes and the 187 exit ramp. Inside the vehicle, crews rescued a 5-year-old male from Chicago, Illinois upside down in his child safety seat. He suffered abrasions and contusions to his forehead and upper extremities.

The front seat passenger, a 36-year-old female also from Chicago was ambulatory on arrival. She suffered lacerations and contusions and was transported by EMS to Akron Children's Hospital to be with her son.

The driver, a 50-year-old male was trapped inside of the vehicle and suffered from traumatic  arrest during the crash. The male was pronounced dead on scene.
